Statistics Canada’s October 15 assessment says per-person fresh fruit availability in Canada reached 77.9 kilograms in 2025, up 3.7% from a year earlier. Fresh vegetables excluding potatoes fell 3.3% to 61.8 kilograms, the seventh consecutive annual decline in the series. Poultry availability rose to 26.1 kilograms per person in boneless weight, beef to 14.2 kilograms, and eggs to 22.5 dozen per person.
The agency says availability measures food physically present in Canada for consumption rather than what people eat. Store-purchased food prices rose 13.9% from 2022 to 2025; fresh or frozen beef prices increased 42.9% and eggs 26% over that period. Statistics Canada says Canada’s progress toward ensuring access to sufficient, affordable and nutritious food has deteriorated since 2018 and is not on track to meet that goal.
