The 2026–27 school year has been disrupted in the Bafoulabé pedagogical district by a reported shortfall of 240 teachers. District director Mamadou Ballo gave the figures at a preparatory meeting with school heads on 30 September, according to the Malian Press and Publicity Agency (AMAP).

Ballo said the gap comprises 150 generalist teachers and 90 specialists. Transfers had included eight departures for one arrival, and three more teachers left after passing professional examinations.

At Bafoulabé’s Second Cycle B school, director Moussa Danfaga said two desk-benches were available for 49 pupils, a shortage he said had persisted since 2023. He was seeking desks from other schools to resume classes.
