German import prices rose 8.3% year on year in August

Destatis reported a 43% annual rise in imported energy prices and an 11% increase for intermediate goods.

Germany’s import prices rose 8.3% in August 2026 from a year earlier and 1.0% from July, Destatis said on 30 September. The annual increase was the strongest since December 2022, the office reported.

Energy import prices were up 43% year on year and intermediate goods 11%; natural gas rose 41.9% and electronic components 16.1%. These are movements in Germany’s import-price index, not retail prices or spot-market quotations.
