Brazil’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) said it inspected fuel markets in 15 federal units from 5 to 9 October and seized 54,520 litres of fuel and 34 LPG cylinders in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul. Municipal consumer-protection agency Procon and the Civil Police joined operations in the city.

ANP said the seizures involved businesses operating without its authorisation, which were temporarily shut. Inspections covered fuel quality, pump-measured volume, equipment and documentation. The agency said it now refers suspected abusive pricing to consumer-protection bodies because it no longer has direct authority to issue fines for that conduct. Seizures or closures do not mean all legal proceedings against the businesses are complete.
