UNESCO’s 9 October report said Cameroon’s national International Literacy Day observance took place at Yaoundé I Council. Stakeholders gathered to share experiences from functional literacy centres and non-formal basic education.

Learning kits were distributed to centre participants, and exhibitions showed learners’ work. The report also gives UNESCO global rates: from 1975 to 2024, youth literacy rose from 75% to 93% and adult literacy from 65% to 88%.
