UK September ranks joint fourth-warmest on record

Provisional Met Office data put the UK’s September 2026 mean temperature at 14.6°C, with marked regional differences in rainfall.

The UK’s provisional mean temperature for September 2026 was 14.6°C, joint fourth-highest for September in records dating to 1884, the Met Office said. The month’s maximum reached 28.1°C on 29 September.

National rainfall was near average, but Scotland received more than a third above its average while southern England remained relatively dry. The Met Office statistics use HadUK-Grid observations and remain provisional.
