The UK’s mean temperature for June to August 2026 was 16.5°C, according to the Met Office’s provisional assessment published on 1 September. That exceeded the previous summer record in the series beginning in 1884.

The agency’s rapid attribution analysis estimated that a summer of this warmth had become about 130 times more likely because of human-caused climate change. This is an event-attribution result; one season alone does not establish the global trend.
