UK allocates £90 million to low-carbon heat networks

New and upgraded heat networks are expected to serve more than 750,000 homes, according to the government.

The UK government announced £90 million on 23 September to build heat networks and repair faulty pipes. These systems can distribute excess heat from sources such as data centres or factories to multiple buildings through pipes.

Officials said more than 750,000 homes are expected to benefit from lower-cost heating under the programme. The announcement also says a major project near the River Thames could unlock up to £5 billion in investment and up to 2,000 jobs; these are government projections.
