The UK government launched £30 million in People’s Power funding on 17 September for local authorities and community energy groups to develop solar, wind and hydropower projects. It is the first tranche of support from a programme announced earlier in the year of up to £1 billion.

The package includes a £20 million Community Fund, a £5 million Partnerships Grant, £1.8 million for Scotland and up to £2.9 million for advice services. The government aims to support more than 1,000 projects; application outcomes have not yet been announced.
