Governments, cities, businesses and philanthropic groups announced a package of measures under the Global Cooling Pledge at a Singapore assembly on 17 September. It includes a global heat-resilience roadmap and an initiative encouraging cities to use nature to reduce heat exposure.

The release named Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and business leader Dong Mingzhu as the first Cool Leaders; Brazil, Cambodia and Côte d’Ivoire joined the Nature for Cooling Challenge. UNEP said the global number of air conditioners is expected to reach 5.6 billion by 2050.
