The Energy Secretary agreed that the regulator can grant consent for gas production at the existing licensed Jackdaw field in the North Sea. The government says supply could begin from the end of October and that output from the project could increase UK domestic gas production by around 6% at peak.

The developer estimates production over as many as 11 years, 27 new direct jobs and 273 existing jobs safeguarded; these are project estimates. Separately, the government announced an initial £2 billion for its Energy Wealth Fund. The Jackdaw decision concerns approval for a project at an already licensed field, not a new exploration licence.
