Across all sectors, final energy consumption fell 0.3% between 2024 and 2025 to 127.7 million tonnes of oil equivalent. The report says domestic use has gradually declined since its early-2000s peak.

DESNZ cites efficiency improvements among the reasons for the long-term decline, alongside warmer temperatures and higher prices. The figures concern household consumption, not national gas production.
