The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) announced that use of ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, in the UAE veterinary sector will be prohibited from 1 November 2026. The Emirates News Agency reported on 20 October that the decision followed scientific assessment of antimicrobial-resistance data, including studies submitted by United Arab Emirates University.

The ban covers veterinary medicines and raw materials containing ciprofloxacin. EDE said nine products are affected: eight imported and one locally registered. Relevant businesses must stop manufacturing, importing and supplying the products, withdraw stocks before the ban takes effect, and re-export or dispose of remaining quantities under approved procedures.
