Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) said on October 5 that the first bauxite shipment from Guinea to the United Arab Emirates under its renewed agreement with Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée was on its way. The company said around 66,000 tonnes were loaded onto a Panamax vessel at Kamsar in late August.
The renewed agreement covers up to 4.9 million tonnes of bauxite a year through 2044. Bauxite is feedstock for alumina refineries. EGA described this as the first shipment since a settlement between the parties was completed; its announcement gave no arrival date and did not say that the full annual volume had been delivered.
