The UAE Ministry of Investment signed a memorandum of understanding with China’s Sunstone Development on September 7 to support establishing an anode-production facility in the country. The ministry said it would assist with licensing and coordination with free zones, industrial parks, ports and customs authorities.

WAM reported that Sunstone and Emirates Global Aluminium entered a joint-venture agreement in December 2025 involving approximately US$300 million. Once operational, the facility is expected to replace most of EGA’s current anode imports; this remains a project expectation, not completed production.
