IllustrationRenewable sources generated 54.1% of electricity produced in the European Union in the second quarter of 2026, Eurostat reported. The share was slightly below 54.3% in the same quarter of 2025. The indicator measures renewables in net electricity production, not their share of gross electricity consumption.
Solar supplied 41.6% of renewable output, up from 37.0% a year earlier. Wind contributed 27.7% and hydropower 22.6%; combustible renewable fuels accounted for 7.7%, while geothermal and other sources made up 0.4%. These source shares use renewable generation as their denominator.
Latvia recorded the highest national share at 97.7%, followed by Denmark at 94.3% and Croatia at 92.2%. The lowest shares were in Slovakia at 19.8%, Czechia at 20.9% and Malta at 24.5%. The differences describe the mix of electricity generated in each country and should not be read as identical shares of total electricity consumption.
