Türkiye’s Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said on 25 October that the country had 127,355 megawatts (MW) of installed electricity capacity at the end of September. Renewable sources accounted for 80,315 MW, or 63.1% of the total. The ministry also put the share of capacity from domestic sources at 72.1%. These are capacity figures, describing the rated power of the installed fleet rather than the electricity it generated during the month.

Solar installations totalled 28,222 MW and wind 15,540 MW at the end of September. Together they represented 43,762 MW, or 34.4% of the national capacity total. Hydropower remained the largest single category at 32,332 MW, followed by natural gas at 25,009 MW. The release’s table also lists domestic and imported coal separately, at 11,565 MW and 10,466 MW, alongside biomass and geothermal capacity.

The ministry reported 31.79 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity generation during September. Hydropower produced 8.27 billion kWh, equal to 26% of the month’s total. Solar generation was 4.32 billion kWh and wind generation 3.84 billion kWh, making 8.16 billion kWh combined. The production figures are monthly flows; they should not be confused with MW capacity stocks.

Renewable sources generated 18.10 billion kWh, or 56.9% of September output, according to the ministry. Domestic sources generated 22.35 billion kWh, or 70.3%. The two classifications overlap: renewable generation is included within the domestic-source total, so their percentages should not be added together. Their shares of generation also differ from the capacity shares because installed power and actual output measure different things.

Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the domestic-source contribution meant Türkiye had reduced its dependence on imported electricity to below 30%. That interpretation is the minister’s statement. The ministry release does not provide the full import, export, storage or consumption balance needed to calculate electricity-system dependence independently from the reported generation mix.

The figures provide a September snapshot of an increasingly renewable-heavy installed fleet, with solar and wind together making up roughly one-third of capacity. They do not by themselves show how output will vary across seasons, how much new capacity came online during September, or whether all installed capacity was available at peak demand. The ministry’s release reports totals and a source breakdown but gives no comparison with the same month a year earlier.
