Piauí’s Family Agriculture Secretariat said it delivered five tonnes of watermelon to five social organisations in Teresina on 8 October. Each organisation received one tonne for meals and food distribution to families.

The fruit was bought from family farmers in the municipality of Jatobá do Piauí for 80,000 reais. The purchase was made through the Food Acquisition Programme (PAA), which buys food from family farming for public distribution to people facing food insecurity. The reported quantity and spending describe this delivery, not the programme’s annual national reach.
