Nigeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security said in an October 9 release that Minister of State Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to its National Cooperative Identity Reform and tasked state officials with supporting implementation. The ministry described the reform as part of an effort to make the cooperative sector more transparent and financeable.

The announced digital architecture is intended to include a national cooperative register and verifiable identity numbers for organizations and members. The ministry also described a five-year target to grow cooperative assets from ₦1.7 trillion to ₦5 trillion. That figure is a government target, not a reported outcome.
