ITU: 74% of the world was online in 2025

The ITU estimated that about 6 billion people used the internet in 2025, equal to 74% of the world population. Its revised 2024 estimate is 5.8 billion.

The agency estimated that the online population grew 3.3% in a year; its earlier 2024 figure of 5.5 billion was revised to 5.8 billion. These are annual estimates.

Regional gaps persisted: internet use was 36% in Africa and 94% in high-income economies. These rates do not measure service quality or skills.
