Destatis’ second estimate, based on reports available on September 20, puts Germany’s 2026 grape-must harvest at 8.0 million hectolitres. That is 4% below the 2020–2025 average and 5% above the 7.7 million hectolitres reported for 2025.

The estimate draws on voluntary reports from about 400 respondents and remains provisional; weather and disease can still change the outcome. Rheinhessen is expected to contribute 2.4 million hectolitres and the Palatinate 2.1 million, together 56% of the projected national harvest. Regional estimates also diverged: output was forecast 11% higher in the Palatinate and 50% lower in Ahr.
