French gendarmes say a producer in Hérault is under investigation for marketing wine under the Châteauneuf-du-Pape protected designation while concealing its real origin. The producer was placed in police custody in March 2026. Gendarmes said the manager of the production and trading companies admitted the facts described in the investigation, while an intermediary tried to minimize his involvement.

The listed assets include a chalet in Megève estimated at €1.6 million and financial placements worth more than €220,000. The case is expected to be heard at the Béziers judicial court; the report gives no hearing date.
