Euro area hourly labour costs rise 3.1% annually

Eurostat reports a 3.2% increase across the EU in the second quarter.

Hourly labour costs rose by 3.1% year-on-year in the euro area in the second quarter of 2026, according to the 16 September release. The EU increase was 3.2%.

The euro area wage and salary component rose by 3.0%, while non-wage costs increased by 3.2%. This nominal cost index does not directly measure workers’ inflation-adjusted purchasing power.
