EU economy greenhouse gas emissions rise 0.3% quarter-on-quarter

The first-quarter estimate reached 837 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent.

Eurostat estimated seasonally adjusted EU economy greenhouse gas emissions at 837 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent in the first quarter of 2026. This was 0.3% above the previous quarter’s 835 million tonnes.

Emissions fell 1.2% year-on-year. Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply recorded a 4.8% quarterly increase. The quarterly rise and annual fall compare different periods and are therefore consistent.
