On 17 September 2026 the Province of British Columbia announced that work is getting underway on a new Peardonville Road crossing of Highway 1 in Abbotsford, following the recent award of the construction contract to Canadian construction company Emil Anderson Group. The contract is valued at C$119.4 million and is funded in partnership with the City of Abbotsford.

The new crossing will replace the existing overpass and provide four lanes, protected bike lanes and sidewalks, with improvements to Peardonville Road and to connections north and south of Highway 1. About 1.6 kilometres of Highway 1 will also be widened as part of the work, with new high-occupancy vehicle, electric vehicle and bus-on-shoulder lanes.

The project is expected to be complete in 2031. With work starting at Peardonville Road, the province said all segments of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program are now in active construction.

Methodology

The C$119.4 million is the value of the construction contract awarded to Emil Anderson Group, which the release says is funded in partnership with the City of Abbotsford without giving the split. The release writes it with a dollar sign and no currency code; it is recorded as Canadian dollars because the issuer is the Province of British Columbia. The 1.6 kilometres is the approximate length of Highway 1 to be widened as part of the crossing construction, and the four lanes belong to the new crossing; both are planned scope rather than completed work.
