Embrapa researchers and seed-keeper families assessed five local maize varieties on October 8 in Angico, within the municipality of Fátima, Bahia. The AgrobioSA event included field observation and tasting of couscous made from local maize.

The assessment combined qualitative and quantitative field observations with a blind tasting. “Cateto Semiduro Dona Júlia” placed second in the tasting; that is not a yield result or a general ranking of agronomic performance. Researchers said the findings were preliminary and that measurements and publications would continue.
