The total was 147 billion cubic feet below the year-earlier level of 3,871 billion, a difference of 3.8%. It was 38 billion cubic feet, or 1.0%, above the 2021–2025 average of 3,686 billion. The five-year comparison and the year-on-year comparison therefore point in different directions.

South Central stocks increased by 43 billion cubic feet, the Midwest by 23 billion and the East by 13 billion. Mountain stocks rose by one billion, while the Pacific region was unchanged. These are weekly storage estimates in physical volume units, rather than measures of gas production, prices or a forecast of winter demand.
