Statistics Canada’s 2025 generating-station data, released October 19, put Canada’s installed electric generating capacity at 155,906 megawatts (MW), or about 155.9 gigawatts. Hydraulic turbines accounted for 83,037 MW, wind turbines 18,382 MW and solar power 5,729 MW. The totals cover all classes of electricity producer.

These figures measure installed capacity, not electricity generated or delivered during the year. Statistics Canada’s survey records station capacity in kilowatts and the type of generation; the reported MW figures here are converted by dividing kilowatts by 1,000.
