Brazil’s Federal Police intervened on October 5 at an illegal mining site on rural land near Kayapó Indigenous Territory in Tucumã, Pará state. The police statement said officers found the mine operating and detained six people in flagrante delicto.

Teams seized two hydraulic excavators, two engines and two mobile phones. Police said conditions in a workers’ lodging area could indicate degrading treatment amounting to forced labor; investigators are seeking to identify those responsible for the mine and the gold buyer. This remains an allegation under investigation, not a final finding.
