Black & Veatch announced on 29 September 2026 that it has completed Three W Solar, a 150 MW DC (110 MW AC) utility-scale solar generation facility developed for Mitsui & Co., Ltd. near Hillsboro, Texas. The project has reached substantial completion and has received approval from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the final requirement for connecting it to the Texas grid. The company said the facility could power as many as 45,000 homes.
Black & Veatch served as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, delivering the solar facility and the associated collector substation infrastructure. The site covers approximately 875 acres. Working together since 2024, the team completed milestones including installation of all racking piles, delivery and installation of the generator step-up transformer, commissioning activities and the ERCOT approvals required for commercial operation. The company described Three W Solar as Mitsui’s first utility-scale solar project in the United States.
ERCOT approval also enables the final turnover of the facility to Mitsui’s operations and maintenance organization. The release did not disclose a contract value.
