Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen said on 17 October that Australia held petrol stocks equivalent to 41 days, diesel for 33 days and jet fuel for 28 days. Compared with his previous weekly update, he said petrol and jet-fuel coverage had each fallen by two days, while diesel coverage had risen by two days.

Bowen said 48 ships carrying fuel were on their way and 3.2 billion litres were secured for delivery over the following four weeks. He also cited a planned government-owned reserve, higher stockholding obligations, support for lower-carbon liquid fuels and vehicle electrification as longer-term measures. These figures and policy descriptions are the minister’s statements in a press conference.
