New Zealand’s in-country petrol stocks covered 34.2 days of demand, diesel 29.8 days and jet fuel 36.7 days as of the night of 18 October, according to MBIE’s 21 October update. Including cargoes at sea, total cover was 48.9, 46.3 and 52.6 days respectively.

There were 9 fuel ships at sea. The figures exclude the government’s 87.5-million-litre strategic diesel reserve. MBIE checks importer reports against shipping information and calculates days’ cover using pre-conflict minimum-stockholding-obligation demand levels; these are not live stock readings for 21 October.
