At a regional crisis-management meeting on 1 October, Kayes’ Directorate of Trade, Consumption and Competition reported that gasoline stocks had increased from 1,752,824 to 3,095,450 litres. Diesel stocks fell from 1,083,850 to 496,125 litres, a 54.23% decline, according to the figures reported by AMAP.

Officials said retail fuel prices were broadly stable and that gasoline stocks at service stations covered consumption needs. Diesel remained above the alert threshold, but the committee called for prompt action to avoid a possible shortage amid road and air transport difficulties affecting Kayes.

The region’s main fuel importer attributed diesel supply challenges to higher prices in Dakar. The figures describe a regional stock snapshot and do not establish a nationwide fuel shortage.
