Alberta warns of high wildfire danger in Rocky Mountain House area

Alberta’s October 17 Rocky Mountain House Forest Area update rated wildfire danger as high. Officials urged caution with outdoor fires as warm temperatures and gusty winds were expected to continue.

The update said wildfire RWF075 had been classified as held, with crews and helicopters continuing suppression work. The public was asked to stay away from the area. Officials reported responding to several new fires that day and said early public reports helped crews act quickly.

A permit is required for all burning in Alberta’s Forest Protection Area. Burn piles must be fully extinguished when winds exceed 12 kilometres per hour; the update warned that gusts above 30 kilometres per hour in parts of the area could make fires difficult to control. These are provincial instructions; the release did not report a specific fire perimeter or evacuation order.
