The Republic of Congo and international partners called for stronger action on afforestation and reforestation at a high-level dialogue in Rome, held alongside the FAO’s 28th Committee on Forestry session and World Forest Week 2026. The meeting gathered nearly 100 representatives from governments, international organizations, business, civil society and research.
Participants prepared a roadmap ahead of the UN Decade on Afforestation and Reforestation, proclaimed in 2025 and scheduled for 2027–2036. The proposed preparatory work includes improving knowledge and data, mobilizing countries and resources, and developing mechanisms to support implementation. These are planning steps; the agency report does not quantify forest restoration already achieved.
