Airbus is launching its Future Engineers Programme at its Broughton site in North Wales, naming Castell Alun High School as its flagship school. The 20-week scheme targets Year 9 pupils before GCSE subject choices and aims to reach schools where students may be at risk of becoming not in education, employment or training.
Twenty students will work with Airbus apprentices as mentors. The programme covers engineering fundamentals and professional skills, then has pupils design, build and flight-test their own drones. Airbus says 190 students have completed the programme since it began at Filton in 2016, with many progressing to engineering apprenticeships and careers.
