Students and officials planted trees together at Vainona High School in Harare on 20 October in an event organized by the UN in Zimbabwe and Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe. Each official was paired with a pupil. Organizers stressed that students, teachers and institutions would need to continue watering and protecting the seedlings after the event.
Officials cited potential shade, water conservation and improvements to the school environment as benefits. Harare Metropolitan Province minister Charles Tawengwa stated a provincial target of planting 10 million trees by 2030, including five million fruit trees. This is a target, not a reported completed planting total.
