The water project combines a $3.5 million grant with a $1.17 million loan. It will fund redevelopment of a spring, replacement of pressure-reducing valves, and upgraded transmission and distribution pipes. The two amounts are different forms of financing.

A separate $46,800 grant will equip the completed fire station with hoses, wildland tools, safety gear and trauma kits. USDA says the project is expected to raise the share of the water system meeting fire-flow requirements from 5% to 65% after completion; that is a target, not a completed result.
