The Lincoln Height Community Center in Halifax County will build a 1,500-square-foot facility. It is intended to provide workforce development and economic development services, as well as free summer camps for children and tax preparation for seniors.

The Bertie County grant will buy personal protective equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, radios and fire hose. USDA says the equipment will reduce response times, but the release gives no measured time or completed outcome. The two grants total $1.95 million, which USDA describes as nearly $2 million.

Grant amounts and facility area are taken directly from USDA’s announcement. $1.95 million is the sum of the two grants; it is not the rounded “nearly $2 million” headline. The stated response-time improvement is USDA’s expectation and is not represented as a measurement.
