Average UK monthly private rent rose 3.8% to £1,406 in the year to September 2026; the annual growth rate was unchanged from August. House prices increased 0.9% to an average £273,000 in the year to August 2026. The annual house-price growth rate slowed for a fourth consecutive month.
The figures are provisional estimates. Northern Ireland’s September private-rent data were not yet available, so ONS estimated its latest two months for the UK total and advises caution when comparing rent figures across UK countries. House-price estimates for the latest 12 months are also subject to revision.
