UK population rose to 69.5 million in mid-2025

The ONS estimated the UK population at 69.5 million in mid-2025, an annual increase of 227,700 people or 0.3%.

The growth rate was the lowest since mid-2020. England grew by 0.4%, while growth in Scotland and Northern Ireland was below 0.1%; Wales recorded a 0.1% decline.

Net international migration fell to 222,900. The ONS also revised its 2022–2024 estimates using updated migration data and said the direction of small changes in Wales and Scotland could change in later releases.
