On 10 September, the UK Cabinet Office told departments to reduce consultations considered unnecessary or repetitive. A bespoke government AI tool identified around 7,000 consultation duties in legislation; the announcement did not say all of those duties would be removed.

The government also announced plans for Parliament to designate major infrastructure projects and for a fixed challenge window so legal objections can be addressed earlier. It pledged to set out a new approach to public participation and guidance in the autumn, while requiring a clear reason where departments consult the public.
