The UN Food and Agriculture Organization selected Emirati farmer Khadija Darwish Alqubaisi among 100 women recognised for work in agrifood systems and rural development. WAM reported on October 9 that the selection cited her contribution to sustainable farming, efforts to increase women’s participation in agriculture and work sharing farming knowledge with young people.

Alqubaisi owns Nad Al Dhab farm in Al Ain and won the Distinguished Female Farmer category at the 2026 Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award. WAM said FAO received more than 600 nominations from 131 countries and assessed geographical balance and the diversity of contributions. The honourees are due to be recognised at FAO headquarters in Rome on October 15.
