South Africa and Egypt launch business council as trade reaches R4.3bn

South Africa and Egypt launched a Joint Business Council at the Alamein Africa Business Forum on October 2. In a statement published October 4, South Africa’s government said direct bilateral data from Statistics South Africa showed trade rising from R3.4 billion in 2024 to R4.3 billion in 2025, a reported 26% increase.

South African exports to Egypt were reported at R1.3 billion in 2024 and R1.6 billion in 2025. The announcement identifies potential cooperation in mining, automotive, agriculture, infrastructure and renewable energy, but gives no investment amount or implementation timetable.
