Paraguay’s Central Bank (BCP) announced on October 2 that its instant payments system, SIP, had won the top award in its category at the Organization of American States’ Inter-American Award for Innovation in Effective Public Management. According to the bank, the 2026 jury assessed 225 initiatives overall and 36 entries in the digital public infrastructure category; 22 initiatives across four categories became finalists.

The BCP-operated system supports interoperable payments and transfers at any time between banks, finance companies, cooperatives and fintech firms. The bank lists aliases, QR codes and payment initiation among its features and says transfers are free for the public. The announcement does not detail the award’s scoring criteria or provide a measure of the system’s actual transaction volume.
