New South Wales says 14 public preschools are opening in Term 4, extending fee-free preschool access to more than 1,000 children. The Department of Education’s October 12 announcement says the first intake is beginning at Yagoona Public Preschool, while the 14 services are part of a wider rollout. It does not say all 14 are already operating.

The Yagoona preschool can accommodate up to 80 children each week, according to the department. The government’s next-stage goal is 100 public preschools by early 2027 and 9,000 additional places; those figures are targets, not current openings or enrolled children. The release also says seven public preschools are already operating.
