Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security announced on 13 October that the 5th Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance would take place in Abuja on 6–8 December. Officials at a 12 October briefing said it would be the first time the meeting is held in Africa.

The ministry said four ministries responsible for health, agriculture, livestock and the environment had committed to lasting joint coordination, responsible antimicrobial use across sectors and public reporting on progress. The livestock ministry urged farmers to use antibiotics only on prescription and observe withdrawal periods before marketing products; the agriculture ministry said misuse can undermine productivity and food safety. Adoption of an Abuja Compact is planned; these are stated commitments and future plans, not completed outcomes.
