In its 19 October announcement, MHRA said Deputy Director for AI and Software Jessica Paulsen would discuss the developing approach at the AdvaMed conference on 20 October. Plans include regulation that adapts over a device’s lifecycle, regulatory sandboxes and closer work with regulators in other countries.

The MHRA 2030 strategy envisages a modern framework for AI-enabled devices and a new Centre for AI and Digital Health. Its AI Airlock sandbox and NHS partnerships are already testing approaches; the announcement does not mean the plans constitute approval of any product.
