Mexico’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Institute (IMIPAS) and Spain’s Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) launched a bilateral initiative on managing and sustainably using sargassum in the Mexican Caribbean. The work will examine distribution, coastal conditions and interactions with fisheries, tourism and maritime activity.

Fieldwork in Mahahual involved 18 local participants: 16 fishers and two tourism-service providers. The ministry said the project will combine field measurements with local fishers’ knowledge. It is a research and planning initiative; the announcement gave no measured quantity of sargassum collected.

Symmetry-enforced band topology observed in TiAs single crystals

Researchers grew stoichiometric hexagonal TiAs single crystals by chemical vapour transport and combined spectroscopy, ARPES, transport measurements and calculations. Four Raman-active vibrational modes were observed, while calculations indicated symmetry-protected topological band crossings.
