Mauritania’s Finance Ministry, the European Union and Expertise France held a seminar on 6 October to close a two-year training programme in quantitative econometrics for analysing and evaluating tax-policy impacts, the Mauritanian Information Agency (AMI) reported. Officials from the Tax Policy Unit, the General Tax Directorate and the General Customs Directorate took part in the programme.
The course ran from 2024 to 2026 under the EU-funded PAGFAM/P2FP programme. AMI described three progressive sessions: data processing and analysis; econometric modelling, estimation and forecasting for fiscal policy; and modern methods for causal inference and impact evaluation.
The stated aim was to strengthen the administration’s ability to design and assess tax policies using quantitative evidence. AMI did not give the number of participants or report measured changes to tax revenue, policy impact or administrative performance.
